Slither Review

A  piece of space rock touches down in a small, back woods, town. Any human who makes contact with the meteor-like space  rock develops a very peculiar set of proclivities. The specific changes include an abdominal tentacle portal for mating, facial disfiguration, an insatiable craving for raw meat, and the urge to procreate. The unaffected members of the community must band together to fend off this new human/alien hybrid. The unaffected may just be the last hope for humanity.

I love Slither. I love that James Gunn paid homage to his Troma roots by playing The Toxic Avenger film in one of the scenes. I enjoyed the dark twisted sense of humor that is apparent all throughout the film. Gregg Henry’s performance, as the mayor, is classic. I admire the quality of the effects and I appreciate that the filmmakers appear to have used primarily practical effects. Slither always has tounge firmly planted in cheek. It never takes itself too seriously and doesn’t expect it’s audience to take the movie seriously, either.

I wholeheartedly recommend checking out Slither. Don’t let the silly name or the ridiculous premise put you off from checking it out. Slither is a modern day cult classic! Give it a look if you are in the mood for something excellent!

I LOOOOVE Slither; it’s definitely one of my favs. It also helps that the mighty fine Nathan Fillion is the film’s star :)
